Self-Employed Tax Reserve in Nigeria (2026)
Plan annual business tax from revenue and expenses, including foreign remote income converted at a reference rate.
Short answer: Self-employed earners and freelancers estimate annual tax from business revenue minus allowable expenses, then divide by twelve for a monthly reserve. Foreign remote income can be added in USD and converted at a reference naira rate.
Who this mode is for
Use self-employed mode if you:
- Invoice clients as an individual or sole proprietor
- Mix Nigerian and foreign client income
- Want a planning reserve before annual filing
It is not a substitute for audited accounts or presumptive-tax filings where those apply.
Revenue and expenses
Enter:
- Annual gross revenue from your business
- Allowable expenses by category (operating, professional fees, equipment, etc.)
- Optional foreign remote income in USD with an exchange rate (default: CBN reference)
The engine builds assessable profit, applies individual income bands, and suggests a monthly reserve.
Foreign income note
Foreign income is converted to naira for planning. Actual tax is payable in naira at the prevailing rate on the date of receipt. Keep records of invoices and bank receipts.
Presumptive tax path
If you do not keep detailed books, you may fall under presumptive tax rules instead. The calculator offers a presumptive turnover path for illustration. Confirm your filing position with an adviser.
